Course Content

Summary of what participants can expect during the webinar series:

  • During the first day of the webinar series, we delve into the foundational aspects of language arts and reading, focusing on oral language development and its crucial role in literacy acquisition. Participants gain insights into the developmental stages of oral language, including phonology, semantics, syntax, and pragmatics, and how to tailor instruction to meet the diverse needs of students in grades 4–6.  
  • The second day of the webinar focuses on essential competencies related to word analysis, identification skills, and writing conventions. Participants deepen their understanding of promoting phonetic, graphophonemic, and morphophonemic knowledge among students in grades 4–6. Attendees will gain practical insights into selecting instructional strategies that facilitate the development of graphomotor skills necessary for effective writing.  
  • On the third day, focus shifts to reading fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary development—critical components of literacy instruction. Participants will explore the interrelationship between reading fluency and comprehension, learning strategies to enhance students' fluency through rate, accuracy, and prosody.  
  • The final day of the webinar series addresses reading comprehension, written communication, and literacy assessment. Participants will deepen their understanding of reading comprehension processes and effective instructional strategies for promoting students' comprehension skills across different text types.
