Teach Us Texas offers a wide range of certification areas to meet your needs and the schools and students in which we serve. Each certification pathway includes preparation and testing requirements for the certification area in which you are seeking.

Elementary Education, EC-6

This comprehensive certification pathway equips educators with the essential skills and knowledge required to teach a wide range of subjects for grades EC-6. Through rigorous preparation and assessments, this pathway covers English Language Arts and Reading, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Fine Arts, Health, Physical Education, and the Science of Teaching Reading, ensuring educators are fully prepared to meet the diverse needs of young learners.

- Our robust alternative certification program offers EC-6 candidates a comprehensive pathway that includes relevant, high-quality coursework, extensive test preparation, personalized tutoring, and the prestigious Texas Reading Academies. Program completers will emerge fully certified, with the Reading Academies component already completed, ensuring they are well-prepared to excel in their teaching careers.

Core Subjects EC-6 with Science of Teaching Reading

Middle Grades Education, 4-8

This comprehensive certification pathway for grades 4-8 provides educators with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in a variety of key subjects. Through rigorous preparation and testing, it covers Core Subjects with Science of Teaching Reading (STR), English Language Arts and Reading with STR, and English Language Arts and Reading/Social Studies with STR. Additionally, it offers specialized certifications in Mathematics, Mathematics/Science, Science, and Social Studies, ensuring educators are well-equipped to meet the diverse needs of middle-grade students.

Important Update

for Special Education Certification Candidates 

Are you pursuing certification in Special Education EC–12? The Texas State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) has announced a major change: 

Beginning September 1, 2025, the current TExES Special Education EC–12 (#161) exam will be replaced by the new TExES Special Education Specialist EC–12 (#186) exam.

What This Means for You:

Internships Starting On or Before September 1, 2025:  If your internship begins on or before this date, you should continue preparing for the TExES Special Education EC–12 (#161) exam. 
Internships Starting After September 1, 2025:  You’ll need to prepare for the new TExES Special Education Specialist EC–12 (#186) exam, as the #161 exam will no longer be offered.
